TrendForce: End Demand Hits Low Point in 1H14, NAND Flash Market Oversupply to Continue into 3Q14

6 March 2014

NAND Flash suppliers are forced to employ aggressive pricing strategies as the main system OEM clients continue to reduce their orders during the off-peak quarter, according to DRAMeXchange, a research division of TrendForce. In February alone, the NAND Flash contract prices dropped by nearly 14% compared to the previous month.

TrendForce: Mobile DRAM Revenue Drops Slightly in 4Q13, Micron Benefits from Elpida Acquisition

19 February 2014

According to DRAMeXchange, a division of global research firm TrendForce, the mobile memory industry’s worldwide revenue reached US$3.039 billion in the fourth quarter of 2013, bringing the yearly total to US$11.826 billion, representing 34.3% of DRAM industry value. The fire at SK Hynix’s Wuxi fabrication plant did not have a significant affect on mobile DRAM output, market competition brought average selling price down by 10% in the fourth quarter. Thus, despite a 3% QoQ increase in mobile shipments, total mobile memory revenue experienced a 7.8% QoQ decline.

TrendForce: NAND Flash Brand Supplier Revenue Falls 4.5% in 4Q13

13 February 2014

According to DRAMeXchange, a division of global research firm TrendForce, in addition to NAND flash capacity adjustments due to the fire at SK Hynix, NAND flash vendors were overly optimistic towards OEM demand in the fourth quarter, resulting in supply that exceeded demand for the quarter. As such, NAND flash brand suppliers’ revenue fell to US$6.168 billion in the fourth quarter of 2013, a 4.5% drop from the previous quarter, but a 16% increase over the same period in 2012. As advanced technology improves yield rates, the NAND flash industry will continue to experience steady growth.

TrendForce: DRAM Industry Value Grows for Fifth Consecutive Quarter in 4Q13

11 February 2014

According to DRAMeXchange, a division of global research firm TrendForce, although the fire at SK Hynix’s plant in the fourth quarter of 2013 resulted in a decrease in DRAM output, the reduced supply caused DRAM ASP to rise, pushing DRAM industry value to US$9.75 billion, a 5% QoQ increase. Furthermore, the top two DRAM suppliers both saw an increase in profits, with differences attributed to the amount of commodity DRAM production each manufacturer produced.

TrendForce: Mobile DRAM Contract Prices Drop during First Half of 1Q14 due to Off Peak Quarter and Sufficient Market Supply

10 February 2014

Mobile DRAM contract prices dropped by 5~10% in January due to the channel clients’ inventory congestion and the new smartphone announcements scheduled for March, according to DRAMeXchange, a research division of TrendForce. The prices for the first tier manufacturers’ Discrete memory products experienced an estimated 5~10% decline, whereas those for LPDDR1 suffered a relatively larger reduction given the shift of focus towards LPDDR2 and LPDDR3 and the subsequently weakened LPDDR1 demand.
