TrendForce’s latest research into the satellite industry reveals that Starlink has recently deployed its first batch of V3 satellites. The new satellites, featuring a 2,048-element phased-array antenna and operating at a lower orbital altitude, deliver ultra-low-latency broadband connectivity and direct-to-cell (D2C) services.
SpaceX’s upcoming IPO plans have become a significant market focus, driven by rising global demand for satellite broadband, direct-to-cell (DTC) connectivity, and AI computing. According to TrendForce, SpaceX is expanding its satellite broadband coverage and aggressively entering new sectors such as DTC services, AI space computing, and space-based solar power (SBSP).
Direct-to-Cell technology is rapidly maturing as global mobile communications standards 3GPP Release 17 and Release 18 continue to incorporate satellite communications. TrendForce’s findings indicate that satellite operators are shifting from traditional satellite broadband services to direct satellite connectivity for smartphones. The global market is projected to reach US$7.6 billion in 2026, representing approximately 49% YoY growth.
TrendForce’s latest investigations indicate that rising demand for satellite constellation deployment, driven by Starlink expansion and the U.S. Space Force’s regular defense satellite launches, has prompted SpaceX to shift its focus from partially reusable rockets to fully reusable systems.
