Taipei, October 22, 2008 --- DRAM DDR2 1Gb 667MHz spot price fell nearly 50% from a high of US$2.29 on May 6’th to US$1.13 on Oct. 17’th. On Sep.30th, price fell 7% in a single day from US$1.37 to US$1.28. DRAM spot price fell below US$1.5, the average cash cost of most DRAM makers back in Sep. 6’th.
Taipei, October 1, 2008 --- DRAM makers such as PSC, Elpida, and Hynix have separately announced production cutbacks on September 8th , 9th , and 18th. If the cutbacks proceed as scheduled, we expect to see a reduction in worldwide DRAM production by 5 to 6% around end of October to November.
Elpida/PSC’s 10-15% output cut is not powerful enough to drive the swing. Most importantly are Korean makers, who have a combined market share of almost 50%, need to cut output by 10% or more to ensure stability in market.
Taipei, September 2, 2008 --- Demand for DRAM did not recover after the Beijing Olympics. Memory module makers, whom realize that their expectations have failed, are starting to initiate price cut in China.
Taipei, August 26, 2008 --- According to DRAMeXchange, demand for NAND Flash might have weaker expectation in 2H08, but a better sales recovery may be seen during the upcoming seasonal upturns as a sharp ASP slump may encourage consumption.
