[News] Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan Hints at Exciting New Products With NVIDIA as Foundry Collaboration Rumors Grow
At Carnegie Mellon University’s honorary doctorate ceremony, Lip-Bu Tan personally congratulated Jensen Huang on receiving an honorary doctorate in science and technology, drawing fresh industry attention to the growing ties between Intel and NVIDIA. According to Wccftech, Tan not only praised Huang’s achievement but also revealed that the two companies are working together on “new and exciting products.”
The remarks come as Intel and NVIDIA continue to deepen cooperation across multiple areas. As noted by The Wall Street Journal, NVIDIA invested US$5 billion in Intel in September, and the two companies announced a partnership under which Intel would develop custom data center CPUs for NVIDIA.
Wccftech notes that the two companies are expected to jointly develop a custom Xeon CPU integrated with NVIDIA’s NVLink interconnect technology. The report adds that this would give NVIDIA access to Intel’s x86 ecosystem, while NVLink support could allow Intel to pair its Xeon SoCs with NVIDIA’s latest Blackwell and Rubin GPUs across a broad range of AI hyperscaler platforms.
In addition, Intel is reportedly developing next-generation SoCs, including the rumored Serpent Lake platform, which could arrive around 2028–2029, while NVIDIA is said to be providing RTX GPU IP for the graphics portion of the chips, according to Wccftech.
Looking ahead, Wccftech also suggested that the relationship could eventually expand into foundry and advanced packaging cooperation. With TSMC’s capacity remaining heavily booked, the report said the situation may create opportunities for Intel Foundry. Industry rumors cited by Wccftech indicate NVIDIA may be evaluating Intel’s 14A and 18A process nodes for the Feynman I/O die, alongside Intel’s EMIB advanced packaging technology.
Beyond NVIDIA, Intel foundry is reportedly gaining traction. According to Wall Street Journal, sources say Apple and Intel have reached a preliminary agreement for Intel to manufacture some of the chips that power Apple devices. The report adds that intensive talks between the two companies have reportedly been ongoing for more than a year, with the two sides said to have reached a formal agreement in recent months.
