[Insights] What to Watch at COMPUTEX: Intel Gaming Handheld Chip, NVIDIA First Consumer PC SoC in Focus
With less than a month remaining until COMPUTEX, the PC industry’s biggest annual event, expectations for this year’s show appear more subdued than usual. According to Zhu Shi’s column on TechNews, the PC market has been hit by soaring memory prices this year, leading to a noticeable decline in shipments. As a result, suppliers have slowed their pace and delayed the launch of new PC chips.
So far, only Intel and Qualcomm have introduced entirely new-generation platforms, Panther Lake and Snapdragon X2 Elite, both of which have already begun shipping in OEM devices. Other suppliers, however, have remained largely quiet. Industry sources believe no other major new platforms are likely to debut this year. As a result, this year’s COMPUTEX could become one of the few editions in recent years without any major product launches. Below are some of the highlights that could emerge at the event.
Intel Arc G3E Raises Expectations for Gaming Handhelds
First, TechNews indicates that COMPUTEX could still feature derivative products based on existing platforms, including Intel’s Arc G3 Extreme (G3E). G3E is Intel’s first processor designed specifically for gaming handhelds and is expected to use the same architecture and process technology as Panther Lake. While its exact core configuration remains unclear, TechNews suggests Intel will likely pair it with the B390 integrated graphics unit, which has already attracted strong attention in Panther Lake systems.
As seen in earlier Panther Lake laptops, the B390 demonstrated strong graphics performance. Combined with XeSS upscaling and frame generation technologies, its gaming capabilities reportedly outperform AMD’s Strix Point and the Radeon 890M integrated graphics used in the Z2 family.
Handheld devices powered by G3E could quickly emerge as leaders in the gaming handheld market. It may therefore be worth watching whether Intel and longtime handheld OEM partners such as MSI will showcase the technology at COMPUTEX.
NVIDIA N1X May Become Major COMPUTEX Attraction
In addition, TechNews mentions another product that could draw significant attention at COMPUTEX: NVIDIA’s N1X, a consumer PC variant derived from the already announced GB10. N1X is Team Green’s first SoC designed specifically for consumer PCs, combining an Arm-based architecture with NVIDIA’s in-house GPU IP. The chip is expected to address one of the biggest weaknesses of Arm-based PCs: relatively weak GPU performance on the PC platform.
Given NVIDIA’s well-known culture of secrecy around new products, a strategically important SoC like N1X would theoretically be unveiled only at the very last moment. However, rumors of NVIDIA developing its own PC SoC have circulated since CES last year, highlighting strong market expectations for the chip’s eventual launch.
