ASML, the Dutch semiconductor equipment maker that produces machines essential for advanced chip manufacturing, has unveiled a new campus in South Korea. According to ZDNet, ASML held an opening ceremony for its new “Hwaseong Campus” in Gyeonggi Province on the 12th. The report adds that ASML invested a total of KRW 240 billion over five years in the project, which spans approximately 16,000 square meters.

As noted by The Korea Herald, citing industry sources, ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet attends the inauguration of the company’s Hwaseong Campus in Songdong, Hwaseong. The report adds that Fouquet is holding business meetings throughout the afternoon, starting with a luncheon with Jeon Young-hyun, head of Samsung Electronics’ Device Solutions (DS) Division, after meeting with SK hynix CEO Kwak Noh-jung the previous day.

ASML’s Hwaseong Hub to Drive Localization and Industry Partnerships

The newly completed ASML Hwaseong Campus serves as the company’s key hub in Asia, integrating a remanufacturing center for DUV and EUV lithography components with a training facility for technology transfer, according to ZDNet. The Korea Herald further points out that the new remanufacturing center enables ASML to procure parts locally, ensuring faster equipment repairs without relying on overseas shipments. In addition, the training centers are expected to cultivate South Korea’s domestic talent specializing in DUV and EUV lithography technologies.

As highlighted by ZDNet, ASML plans to leverage its new campus to deepen collaboration and technology exchange with major Korean semiconductor firms such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, while also building a stronger ecosystem with local materials, components, and equipment suppliers.

ASML Strengthens Ties with Korean Chipmakers

The Korea Herald also notes that the opening of the new campus is expected to further accelerate the joint R&D center initiative between ASML and Samsung Electronics. In addition, the report adds that only a few semiconductor manufacturers worldwide—such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix—are equipped to adopt ASML’s High-NA EUV technology, making South Korea a vital market for the company. In September, SK hynix became the first in the memory industry to deploy a production-grade High-NA EUV tool at its M16 fab in Icheon, while Samsung Electronics installed an R&D unit in March and is reportedly preparing to introduce a production model by mid-next year.
