[News] CXMT Speeds up Talent Push as R&D Workforce Reportedly Surges 60% YoY to Nearly 78% of SK hynix’s
As CXMT gains ground in DRAM and pushes into LPDDR6, its R&D engine is scaling fast. Korean outlet eDaily reports that the Chinese DRAM maker has expanded its R&D workforce by more than 60% in just one year, bringing its headcount to roughly 78% of SK hynix’s.
Citing CXMT’s 2026 interim report released on September 6, eDaily reports that the company had 7,491 R&D employees as of the end of June, up 60.9%, or 2,836, from 4,655 a year earlier. R&D personnel reportedly accounted for 33.42% of its total workforce, up from 30.42% a year earlier.
In comparison, SK hynix reportedly had 9,651 research employees at the end of last year, leaving a gap of just 2,160 compared with CXMT’s.
CXMT is also putting more money behind its talent push. The report suggests that its average pay per employee rose about 34% to RMB 416,200 in the first half of 2026. If that pace holds through the second half, annualized compensation would reach about RMB 832,400 (KRW 167 million), roughly 5.4 times the average annual salary of professional and technical workers at large Chinese enterprises, according to eDaily.
CXMT’s aggressive push to expand its R&D and talent base comes as the company’s business is accelerating sharply. According to TrendForce, its global DRAM revenue jumped 99.3% QoQ in 2Q26, lifting its market share to 9.5% from 7.6% in 1Q26. The gain pushed CXMT into fourth place globally, behind Samsung at 39.4%, SK hynix at 24.9%, and Micron at 23.3%.
Global Talent Push
On the other hand, CXMT has expanded its talent recruitment efforts beyond China to overseas markets. Yonhap News, citing Chinese media outlet Jiemian News, reports that the company recently announced on social media that it plans to recruit expected bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral graduates from both Chinese and overseas universities for more than 180 positions next year.
According to Yonhap News, job locations include CXMT’s headquarters in Hefei, Anhui Province, as well as Beijing, Shanghai, and Xi’an in China. Japan is also listed as a work location.
CXMT’s recruitment notice also offers a glimpse into its hiring needs, with openings spanning circuit design, R&D and technology, mass-production technology, production operations, IT, and marketing, the report notes, adding that R&D positions account for the largest share of openings.
