[News] Samsung Taylor Fab Reportedly Fully Booked for 2nm by Tesla, Broadcom, Arm; Fab 2 Preparations Accelerate

Samsung Foundry is gaining momentum in advanced chipmaking as customer interest in its 2nm technology grows. According to Munhwa Ilbo, Samsung’s first Taylor fab is reportedly already fully booked for 2nm production before operations begin. Citing industry sources, the report linked orders at the fab to Tesla’s AI5 and AI6 chips, Broadcom’s next-generation communications chips, and AI chips for smart devices from Arm.

The facility could begin trial operations as early as late September or early October, followed by mass production in 2027. Its initial production capacity is set at 50,000 wafer starts per month, according to the report.

The Taylor order momentum comes as Samsung’s broader foundry business shows signs of improvement. Reuters reported in August that Samsung’s 4nm line in Pyeongtaek has been running at full capacity since late 2025, while the company has raised prices for some advanced-node orders by as much as 15%.

Samsung Steps Up Preparations for Taylor Fab 2

Meanwhile, Munhwa Ilbo also notes that preparations for Taylor Fab 2 are also moving forward. Samsung has confirmed plans to begin construction by the end of 2026, with mass production targeted for 2030. The company is already laying the groundwork for the expansion ahead of construction. According to ZDNet, industry sources say Samsung has asked multiple equipment suppliers to secure SEMI safety certifications in advance for tools planned for Taylor Fab 2, even though the fab’s detailed specifications have yet to be finalized. An industry official said Samsung Foundry is moving faster than expected in preparing for the investment.
