[News] Renesas to Raise Prices Again From Jan. 2027, Citing Rising Material, Energy and Manufacturing Costs

Power semiconductor price hikes are continuing to spread across the industry. According to STAR Market Daily, Renesas Electronics has announced another pricing adjustment, with the new prices set to take effect on January 1, 2027. The company previously announced a price increase in March that took effect on July 1. In its latest notice, Renesas cited continued structural cost increases across raw materials, energy, advanced packaging, manufacturing capacity, and global logistics.

Power semiconductors are critical components for power conversion and circuit control and are widely used in power electronics. In recent years, the rapid buildout of AI data centers has driven a surge in demand for power chips used in power control and rack-level power delivery. As the report indicates, multiple power semiconductor manufacturers, including major international and Chinese suppliers, have announced several rounds of price increases since the beginning of 2026.

Price Hikes Spread Across Global and Chinese Suppliers

Among major global suppliers, STAR Market Daily notes that Infineon’s first round of price adjustments covered power switches and related chips, with increases of 5% to 15% taking effect on April 1. On May 26, Infineon issued another price adjustment notice to customers, with the new prices taking effect on July 1.

TechNews further notes that Texas Instruments (TI) has recently informed customers of price adjustments across multiple products, primarily reflecting changing market conditions and rising supply chain costs. The adjustments cover multiple products in its portfolio. TI did not specify a uniform increase, as the adjustments will vary depending on the materials, technologies, and manufacturing processes used for each product.

Price increases have also spread to major Chinese power semiconductor suppliers. CR Micro raised prices across its entire product portfolio by more than 15% starting July 1, while Silan increased prices by more than 15% on the same day. CR Micro expects the benefits of the price increases to become more evident in 3Q26. The company also expects supply and demand to remain tight in the second half of the year, noting that its order backlog remains strong and that it maintains a positive outlook on product pricing.

AI Capacity Shift Could Keep Power Chip Supply Tight

Looking ahead, analysts cited by STAR Market Daily say further price increases for power semiconductor devices remain possible in 2H26. New capacity for low- and medium-voltage power semiconductors, including MOSFETs, remains limited, while global suppliers appear to be reallocating capacity toward higher-value AI and AI data center (AIDC) applications, further constraining supply for traditional industrial customers. The report adds that among Chinese power semiconductor manufacturers, companies with greater exposure to low- and medium-voltage power semiconductors, such as MOSFETs and small-signal devices, are expected to benefit from the supply shortage.
