Recently, West Lake Yanshan Technology (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. officially commenced production at what it claims is the world’s first 8-inch GaN-on-Silicon Micro LED IDM mass production line, located at its factory in Deqing, Zhejiang Province.

The newly launched line adopts a full-chain IDM model, covering the entire manufacturing process from epitaxial material growth and chip fabrication to advanced packaging. The facility enables integrated closed-loop production from silicon-based GaN epitaxy to finished Micro LED devices.

Unlike the conventional 4-inch sapphire substrate approach, the production line is based on 8-inch silicon-based GaN technology, featuring high light extraction efficiency, improved processing yield, and an interconnection rate exceeding 6N (99.9999%).

Founded in May 2022 by Dr. Wei Kong, a researcher at Westlake University, Yanshan Technology leverages the university’s industry-academia research ecosystem. Its core team specializes in semiconductor interface treatment and compound material growth technologies.

The company has developed key technologies including MOCVD material growth, hybrid bonding, and RGB vertical stacking. In September 2025, it completed full-process verification of hybrid integration on its 8-inch silicon-based GaN platform and successfully demonstrated a large-size Micro LED panel with a resolution exceeding 20,000 PPI.

The project is designed for an annual output of 3 million Micro LED display devices. The facility includes more than 6,000 square meters of cleanroom space, supported by constant temperature and humidity control systems as well as dual-circuit power supplies for stable 24-hour mass production.

Its product portfolio spans both microdisplay and self-emissive display applications. Microdisplay products target AR glasses, micro projectors, and automotive HUDs, while self-emissive display applications include commercial large-sized displays, smart wearable devices, and transparent displays.

Following the launch of the production line, per-unit costs are expected to fall to less than 30% of those of conventional products. At full capacity, the project is projected to generate annual output value of CNY 300 million.

Yanshan Technology has established partnerships with companies including AVIC Group, BYD, Sunny Group, BOE, TCL CSOT, Samsung Electronics, and Tianma Microelectronics.

In April 2026, the company completed its Series A financing round led by Haiwang Capital, with the funds earmarked for production line upgrades and continued technology development.
