Samsung may be approaching a round of executive reshuffling. According to Chosun Daily, sources say the company began issuing retirement notices to some executives on the 20th. With these notifications underway, subsequent appointments could be announced as early as the 21st or early next week, the report suggests.

The report notes that once new president-level appointments are confirmed, follow-up executive assignments to build out the organizations under them typically occur within two to three days. Over the past two years, Samsung Electronics has announced its president-level appointments in late November.

Earlier on the 7th, Samsung Electronics elevated the Business Support TF to the Business Support Office, and Vice Chairman Chung Hyun-ho retired. As noted by ZDNet, this development has fueled expectations that the upcoming reshuffle could be extensive.

Samsung DS Leadership Under Scrutiny

ZDNet also notes that the industry is closely watching whether Samsung will replace the leaders of the Memory Business Unit and the System LSI Business Unit within its core Device Solutions Division.

As indicated by Pinpoint News, the future of Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Jun Young-hyun—who also heads the Device Solutions Division—has become a key point of interest. The report notes that he may remain in his position, given his significant contributions to addressing challenges such as the company’s HBM effort.

Still, News Tomato notes that there is speculation that Jun may step back from some of his roles, as he currently holds several positions beyond leading the DS Division—including CEO, Head of the Memory Business Division, and Head of Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT), according to the company’s website.

Meanwhile, according to News Tomato, there is growing interest in whether Roh Tae-moon, Acting President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ Device Experience (DX) Division, will shed his acting title and be promoted to Vice Chairman. If he is promoted, Samsung would maintain its “two-top” leadership structure with Vice Chairman Jun leading the DS Division.

LG’s Potential Leadership Change

Alongside Samsung, another major Korean conglomerate is also preparing for personnel changes. According to ETNews, LG is expected to hold a board meeting around the 27th, following the completion of its business report, to conduct its regular year-end reshuffle. The potential promotion of a new vice chairman has become a major point of interest in the industry.
