28 April 2011 Display

According to WitsView shipment survey of the world's top ten LCD monitors, the shipping MoM of the top ten brand vendors in March 2011 grew 33% over February's, to 12.91 million units. The shipping MoM of the SIs grew up to 40% compared with February's, a total amount of 14.34 million units. After the Chinese Lunar New Year, production and sales plans were back to normal levels for both brand vendors and SIs. In addition, March is the end of a quarter, and under the pressure of performance, shipments were significantly increased.

In the aspect of LED monitor penetration rate, the penetration growth strengths of ViewSonic, BenQ and Philips were evident. Among them, ViewSonic's March LED product penetration rate was more than 50%. Besides, the LED penetration rates of LGE and HP had significant growth in March at 10% each. According to the latest WitsView LCD monitor street price survey indicates in April average retail prices of various sizes of LED models showed a further downward trend. The main reason was the brand vendors introduced various mid-to-low prices LEDs, hoping to increase the LED market shares through the promotion of inexpensive LED products.

Looking out into the second quarter, it benefits from a relatively stable order demand of the commercial markets. Dell and HP which are commercial market-oriented are expected to have a relatively outstanding shipping performance. The second quarter is the traditional off-season for the European and the US markets, so demands are expected to be moderate. Coupled with a shorter May 1 holiday in China, pushing up terminal sales will be limited. Thus, shipping performance in the second quarter is being viewed conservatively in the consumer market-oriented brand vendors.
