[Insights] Early August Panel Prices: TV Price Declines Moderate; MNT and NB Stay Flat as Cost Pressures Persist
.TV
As August begins, TV panel demand is gradually recovering as brands ramp up inventory for year-end seasonal demand following procurement adjustments at the end of the second quarter. Major brands are aiming to boost peak-season shipments to meet annual targets and gain market share, while continuing to use procurement negotiations to secure lower panel prices before increasing third-quarter purchases. For panel makers, improving third-quarter demand is expected to gradually reduce room for further price concessions. Based on current market conditions, prices for 32-inch to 75-inch TV panels are projected to decline by just US$1 in August, with the pace of declines continuing to moderate.
.MNT
Monitor (MNT) panel demand is expected to improve slightly in August from the previous month, although overall third-quarter demand is still forecast to decline by approximately 6% from the second quarter. At the same time, panel makers continue to face elevated component cost pressures, making them reluctant to offer further price concessions despite weaker demand. Brand customers also recognize the cost pressures facing panel makers and have not stepped up efforts to push for lower panel prices. As a result, both buyers and suppliers are taking a wait-and-see approach to pricing. Based on current market conditions, MNT panel prices are expected to remain flat in August.
.NB
As August begins, notebook (NB) panel demand has shown little improvement from the previous month and remains subdued. Although brands remain optimistic about third-quarter system shipments, aggressive component procurement in the previous quarter and tighter inventory controls in the second half are expected to keep panel purchasing cautious. Meanwhile, elevated component costs continue to limit panel makers’ willingness to offer further price concessions, while brands also recognize these cost pressures and are not pushing aggressively for lower prices. As a result, NB panel prices are expected to remain flat in August.
