Wolfspeed has announced a major executive appointment: former Infineon executive Matthias Buchner has joined the company as Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), which will take effect on December 1, 2025.

The move underscores Wolfspeed’s determination to accelerate the market adoption of its next-generation 200mm SiC platform, as it seeks to gain a stronger foothold in fast-growing sectors such as electric vehicles (EVs) and AI data centers.

Mr. Buchner previously spent over 20 years at Infineon Technologies AG, most recently serving as Senior Vice President of Marketing for the Power & Sensor Systems Division, where he oversaw strategic communications and marketing operations for a business generating more than USD 3 billion in annual revenue.

For Wolfspeed, Buchner brings not only extensive global sales and marketing expertise, but also deep insights into silicon and SiC technologies, as well as competitive markets such as automotive and industrial sectors—an invaluable asset for a company fully dedicated to the SiC domain.

The appointment comes at a pivotal moment in Wolfspeed’s strategic transformation, who has recently completed key financial and operational adjustments. Buchner will lead the company’s global sales and marketing teams to expand its customer base around devices built on Wolfspeed’s next-generation 200mm SiC manufacturing platform. His efforts will focus on driving growth across diverse, high-potential markets including electric vehicle, renewable energy, industrial power system, and the increasingly critical AI-driven data infrastructure segment.

Wolfspeed President and CEO Robert Feurle emphasized that bringing in a senior industry leader is aimed at strengthening customer relationships and accelerating expansion into rapidly growing markets, such as AI data centers and grid infrastructure. This move highlights Wolfspeed’s strategy to extend SiC technology applications beyond traditional automotive domains into the high-efficiency AI computing ecosystem.
