With a Taiwan labor dispute over employee compensation unfolding against a booming memory market, Micron is rolling out its biggest-ever reward package. According to TechNews and Anue, the U.S. memory giant said Thursday (Sept. 11) that it will distribute FY26 rewards to more than 60,000 employees worldwide, marking the largest payout in the company’s history.

The reports highlight that in Taiwan, the FY26 package includes a NT$1 million cash appreciation bonus for each employee who joined by August 29, 2025, with payouts prorated for those hired during FY26. Employees will also receive annual performance bonuses of up to 500% of the base target, along with additional stock awards, the reports add.

For Taiwan employees, the package reportedly translates into 35 to 68 months of total compensation for production-line workers. FY26 cash compensation will start at NT$1.7 million (roughly US$53,125), while entry-level engineers will average NT$2.9 million in cash and NT$3.4 million (roughly US$106,250) including stock awards at grant value, according to the reports.

The announcement comes as Micron’s labor dispute in Taiwan enters a critical stretch. According to Wealth Magazine, the two sides failed to reach an agreement in their first mediation on September 4, with a second round set for September 21. With Micron’s annual compensation adjustments due October 1, the coming two weeks could prove crucial to averting a potential strike, the report suggests.

At the heart of the dispute is how Micron shares its growing profits with employees. As previously reported by Commercial Times, the union argues that Micron’s IPP (Incentive Pay Plan) is less transparent and pays substantially less than the profit-based systems at Samsung and SK hynix.

Micron Speeds up Taiwan Expansion as Memory Demand Surges

Calling Taiwan a critical hub for its global technology leadership, Micron said it employs around 15,000 people on the island and has invested more than NT$1.6 trillion to date. Wealth Magazine notes that amid tight memory supply, Micron is accelerating its expansion in Taiwan. Beyond its major production hubs in Taoyuan and Taichung, the company is adding new sites in Tongluo, Miaoli, and Tainan, while upgrading facilities and installing equipment to bring new capacity online faster, the report adds.

Notably, as previously reported by ETNews, the U.S. memory giant is stepping up its HBM expansion, with capacity expected to increase by as much as 60K wafers/month by year-end, driven by a stronger focus on 12-Hi HBM4 supply. Citing industry sources, ETNews estimates Micron’s HBM capacity was around 40K–50K wafers/month last year.
