[News] Germany DDR5 Prices Near 5X YoY in August; China Reportedly Sees 14% WoW Jump as Global Rally Continues
DDR5 memory prices have continued to climb sharply. According to Wccftech, citing 3D Center, Germany’s DDR5 price index rose from 445% to 486% in August, making a typical DDR5 RAM kit nearly 4.9 times more expensive than a year ago. Most higher-capacity modules also recorded double-digit increases, including 64GB, 48GB, and 32GB DDR5 kits. Only a handful of kits remained largely unchanged in recent weeks, though prices are still more than 400% above July 2025 levels. As the report indicates, July had already been the most expensive month to buy a DDR5 RAM kit, but August has pushed prices even higher, with further double-digit increases likely in the coming months.
DDR5 Price Surge Extends Across Global Markets
The surge is also being seen in China. According to Economic Daily News on August 5, memory prices in Shenzhen’s Huaqiangbei surged across the board. DDR4 8Gb 3200 rose 12.82% WoW from US$19.50 to US$22, while DDR5 24Gb and 16Gb climbed 14.29% to US$48 and US$40, respectively. Industry observers noted that the spike marked a sharp acceleration from the relatively modest price increases seen over the past six months, signaling that the memory rally has spread from suppliers’ long-term contracts to retail channels.
The sharp increase is also visible across online retail channels. TechRadar, citing sources, notes that a 32GB Corsair Vengeance DDR5 kit currently offered as a limited-time deal on Amazon remains around four times its previous price level. Data cited by the report show that the same kit was available for just £99.99 a year ago, even without a discount, highlighting how sharply consumer memory prices have risen.
The U.S. market is seeing similar price pressure. According to Tom’s Hardware, DDR5 prices have surged over the past three months, with some kits seeing three- to fourfold increases. A standard 32GB (2×16GB) DDR5 kit, which sold for around US$100–200 in October 2025, now starts at roughly US$350, if it is available at all. The report notes that availability remains limited across many memory kits, with high-capacity DDR5 products facing particularly severe shortages and price premiums.
In Japan, price pressure is particularly evident among higher-capacity DDR5 kits. According to AKIBA PC Hotline!, some 64GB×2 DDR5 kits continued to climb in early August, with DDR5-6000 rising by ¥44,400 to ¥316,980 and DDR5-6400 increasing by ¥32,820 to ¥367,620. The lowest price for a 64GB×2 DDR5 DIMM kit also rose by ¥27,220 from the previous survey to ¥299,800. However, the trend was not uniform, with some lower-capacity kits seeing price declines.
Looking ahead, broader DRAM pricing pressure may persist. According to TrendForce, server DRAM contract prices are expected to rise 13–18% QoQ in 3Q26, with suppliers potentially raising quotations further as the market remains undersupplied. TrendForce also anticipates a server DRAM shortage in 2027 and expects contract prices to continue rising on a quarterly basis from 2H26 through 2H27, albeit at a gradually moderating pace.
