[News] STMicroelectronics Reportedly Set for Second MCU Price Hike This Year, Effective June 28
As analog IC heavyweights Texas Instruments and NXP reportedly prepare to raise prices between June and July, MCU vendors are also joining the latest pricing wave. According to ijiwei, STMicroelectronics has informed customers of a new round of MCU price adjustments scheduled to take effect on June 28.
Notably, EE Times China highlights that this would mark STMicroelectronics’ second round of price increases this year. In late March, the market circulated what was reported to be a price adjustment notice from the company, stating that prices across multiple product lines would be raised effective April 26, 2026, the report suggests.
Behind the move are persistent supply-side constraints and strengthening AI-driven demand. As reported by the Economic Daily News, tight mature-node capacity is increasingly being allocated to higher-value products such as PMICs and MCUs, while rising labor, material, and depreciation expenses continue to push costs higher across the semiconductor supply chain.
Part of these pressures can be traced back to the foundry sector. According to a May Economic Daily News report, industry sources had indicated as early as February that Vanguard International Semiconductor (VIS) would raise foundry prices for selected products starting in April, with increases reaching as much as 15%. Chairman Leuh Fang later confirmed that VIS had already implemented price adjustments in recent months.
Meanwhile, according to Liberty Times, UMC CFO Chitung Liu said at the company’s shareholder meeting that the foundry plans targeted price adjustments in 2H26, ahead of wider customer negotiations in 2027.
In addition, another Commercial Times report also points out that due to the fact that many MCU products rely on NOR flash as storage for code and firmware, the ripple effect of rising memory prices has begun to extend into the MCU supply chain, emerging as one of the key drivers behind the current round of price adjustments.
MCU Price Hikes Spread Across the Industry
STMicroelectronics is not alone. According to EE Times China, a growing number of MCU vendors have recently rolled out price increases: NXP informed customers on May 1 that selected products would see higher prices starting June 1, while Infineon followed with its own announcement on May 26, with changes set to take effect on July 1 for certain product lines.
As reported by Commercial Times, Taiwanese MCU company Nuvoton issued a product price adjustment notice on May 29, stating that amid changes in the global market environment and persistent inflationary pressures across the supply chain, costs for raw materials, memory, and packaging and testing continue to rise.
