According to Liberty Times, TSMC has announced leadership changes for its Arizona operations. Effective October 1, Vice President Ray Chuang will succeed Dr. Y.L. Wang as CEO of TSMC Arizona. The report notes that the reshuffle underscores TSMC’s push to expand its U.S. investments and accelerate the ramp-up of advanced process production at the Arizona fabs. Chuang, described as one of TSMC’s key figures in advanced nodes, is expected to take on the responsibilities of this new phase.

Ray Chuang to Lead TSMC Arizona Expansion

TSMC Arizona has undergone a series of executive changes amid the company’s broader U.S. expansion. As noted by the report, as of August 1, senior executive Yi-Huang Wu returned to Taiwan, while lithography expert Li-Kong Turn, who had long overseen TSMC’s 12-inch fabs, assumed responsibility for the Arizona plant. Su Bin-jia, former head of Fab 15B in the Central Taiwan Science Park, was also assigned to TSMC Arizona. The company has now announced that Ray Chuang will become CEO of TSMC Arizona in October, leading the company’s U.S. mass production expansion.

Central News Agency highlights that since 2020 Ray Chuang has served as senior fab director of Fab 18A, where he led the team to achieve 5nm mass production, making TSMC the world’s first company to reach this milestone, and later oversaw the successful ramp-up of 4nm mass production in 2022. Before joining TSMC, Chuang worked as a senior engineer at Vishay and Intel, the report adds.

TSMC Successor Lineup: Dr. Y.L. Wang Emerging as Candidate

Meanwhile, former Arizona CEO Y.L. Wang has completed his phase of the mission and returned to Taiwan to continue serving as an operations executive. Liberty Times points out that this positions him as a candidate for TSMC’s next generation of successors, with the possibility of being promoted to senior vice president by the end of this year.

As Liberty Times indicates, following the retirement of former senior vice presidents J.K. Lin and Wei-Jen Lo, both Wang and fellow operations vice president Dr. T.S. Chang are expected to be elevated to senior vice president roles by year-end, further clarifying the makeup of TSMC’s new generation of successors.
