As Qualcomm and Samsung push into the 2nm era with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 and Exynos 2600, Taiwan’s MediaTek confirmed at its July 30 earnings call that it’s also gearing up for 2nm, targeting edge and cloud AI chips—with tape-out expected in September, according to the Economic Daily News and Commercial Times.

Notably, Commercial Times suggests MediaTek is rapidly growing its ASIC R&D team and hiring top talent, as it teams up with major global CSPs on data center ASICs—expected to start driving strong revenue in 2026.

As Wccftech previously reported, one major project could come from Google, which is reportedly shifting its 7th-gen TPU design from Broadcom to MediaTek, though a recent Economic Daily report flags that internal design changes at Google may delay the project’s finalization to between September and October, with mass production now pushed to Q4 2026.

Meanwhile, there’s also market buzz lately that Meta could be teaming up with MediaTek to co-develop a next-gen AI chip, codenamed “Arke,” with mass production slated for the first half of 2027.

According to Commercial Times, to capture the booming ASIC demand, MediaTek is reportedly allocating more resources to advanced process nodes, cutting-edge packaging technologies, and next-gen IP like 448G SerDes and Co-Packaged Optics (CPO).

Citing MediaTek’s CEO Rick Tsai, Commercial Times notes that the company’s flagship smartphone revenue is expected to hit $3 billion in 2025, growing over 40% annually. The success, as per the report, could be attributed to Success the strong performance of Dimensity 9400 series in flagship models from OPPO, vivo, and Redmi.

According to Anue, thanks to mass production of the Dimensity 9500 series, MediaTek’s flagship product sales are set to grow in Q3. However, weaker demand for mainstream products and drops in smart device platforms and power management ICs are expected to pull overall Q3 revenue down 1-8% quarter-over-quarter in USD, the report adds.
