With rumors swirling that top memory makers like Samsung and Micron are scaling back DDR4 production, IT Home and MoneyDJ—citing Nikkei—report that Micron’s EVP confirmed the company has sent end-of-life (EOL) notices for DDR4 and LPDDR4 to PC and data center customers.
According to the reports, Micron Executive VP and Chief Business Officer Sumit Sadana revealed that the U.S. memory giant has already issued end-of-life (EOL) notices for DDR4 and LPDDR4 to customers. MoneyDJ suggests that Micron’s DDR4 shipments will end in 2–3 months and hinted at price hikes ahead to fuel future investments and R&D.
Production for these segments is expected to wind down after Q1 2026, IT Home adds.
However, Micron will reportedly continue supplying DDR4 and LPDDR4 memory to long-term customers in the automotive, industrial, and networking sectors, where demand for quality and stable supply remains strong. Sadana also noted that the current tight supply of DDR4 is likely to persist, as per the reports.
Amid the tight market, recent rumors say Micron has hiked June DDR4 prices by 50%, sending 8Gb and 16Gb spot prices soaring.
Industry sources indicate that DDR4 pricing is in chaos, with some quotes jumping as much as 100%. Another Etnews report noted that Samsung, finalized new pricing terms with major clients in early May, has raised DDR4 prices by around 20%.
