While leading NAND flash makers are trimming output in early 2025, Samsung is reportedly exiting the Multi-Level Cell (MLC) NAND business to streamline its memory portfolio. According to The Elec, it will stop taking MLC NAND orders after June.

However, industry sources note that Samsung intends to stop supplying MLC NAND to the consumer market, reserving future shipments exclusively for automotive use.

The Elec reports that alongside the exit timeline, Samsung has notified some clients of upcoming price hikes for its MLC NAND products. Customers who relied on Samsung’s MLC NAND, including LG Display, are now seeking alternative suppliers, the report adds.

It is worth noting that as per The Elec, LGD has used MLC NAND in its 4GB eMMCs for large OLED panels. With both Samsung and ESMT, two of LGD’s major suppliers, relying on Samsung’s foundries to manufacture MLC NAND, Samsung’s exit leaves Kioxia as LG’s sole remaining supplier, the report suggests.

According to The Elec, with MLC NAND production winding down, Samsung is expected to shift focus to triple-level cell (TLC) and quad-level cell (QLC) NAND.

In terms of the trend for the general NAND market, TrendForce’s latest investigations reveal that continued AI investments by major North American CSPs are expected to drive a significant increase in enterprise SSD demand in the third quarter of 2025, with blended NAND prices projected to rise by 5–10% QoQ.
