Key Highlights
- Global NEV sales continued to climb in 2025, accounting for nearly one-third of all new car sales. Within this segment, BEVs maintained strong growth momentum, whereas PHEVs entered a decline. When HEVs are included, the overall penetration rate of electrified models approached 30% in 2025.
- Moving into 2026, the NEV and broader EV markets are expected to sustain double-digit growth. However, in China—a critical market—the focus of subsidy policy has shifted from a fixed-amount system to one based on a percentage of the vehicle price. China has also implemented a partial reinstatement of the vehicle purchase tax. These changes are expected to erode the competitiveness of low-to-mid-range models, thereby slowing the Chinese market’s growth. Nevertheless, China is projected to remain the world’s largest NEV market.
- Due to their heavy reliance on high-capacity memory components, EVs are significantly exposed to price hikes and supply shortages in the memory market. However, because memory represents a limited portion of the total BOM cost of a vehicle, automakers are currently prioritizing supply stability. Consequently, automakers are unlikely to cut production or significantly raise vehicle prices in response to short-term cost increases.
- NVIDIA currently holds the leading market share for ADAS SoCs. However, to enhance system integration and secure control of key technologies, Chinese automakers are aggressively pursuing in-house development of ADAS SoCs. The penetration rate of proprietary chips in high-end Chinese vehicle models is forecasted to exceed 50% by 2030.
- In the realm of IVI SoCs used in EVs, Qualcomm dominates with a market share of nearly 50%, while MediaTek has seen its share rise steadily since entering the supply chain in 2025. To conserve resources in the chip development process, both major suppliers primarily utilize mature smartphone SoCs, modifying them to meet automotive standards. As for ICE vehicles, automakers primarily take account of stricter cost constraints. Therefore, automakers continue to favor established automotive semiconductor suppliers such as Renesas, STMicroelectronics, and NXP for IVI SoCs used in ICE vehicles
- Currently, much of the demand for automotive memory is mainly related to IVI systems, with specifications upgrading alongside improvements in audio-visual entertainment functions. At present, 4GB and 8GB are the mainstream DRAM configurations, while NAND Flash capacities vary widely from 4GB to 32GB, depending on the specific application.
