As memory giants restructure capacity amid tight supply, Japan’s Kioxia joins the wave, with a client notice indicating it will discontinue Thin Small Outline Package (TSOP) products, final shipments set for March next year, according to TechNews.

The March 16 notice, cited by the report, cited the phase-out of related substrates, evolving market demand, and production limitations as the key reasons behind the TSOP supply halt.

Regarding final orders and shipments, Kioxia China, according to TechNews, noted that the last forecasted order (customer’s final order quantity) is due by May 30, 2026, the final order cutoff is September 15, 2026, and the last shipment is scheduled for March 15, 2027.

TechNews further explains that compared with mainstream TLC and QLC architectures, multi-level cell (MLC) NAND delivers the lowest unit value, which makes it less aligned with NAND makers’ strategies for scale efficiency and capital optimization. As a result, manufacturers are increasingly focusing resources on TLC, QLC, and DRAM while gradually phasing out MLC products, the report notes.

As previously reported by The Elec, Samsung had already flagged in late February that it may halt 2D NAND production at Hwaseong Line 12 as early as March and converting the facility into a 1C DRAM end fab to ease production bottlenecks. Notably, the report suggested that this move officially closes Samsung’s 2D NAND chapter.

Kioxia Locks in 2026 Long-term Agreements

Meanwhile, as long-term agreements (LTAs) take center stage among memory giants, Kioxia revealed in its February earnings call that its 2026 LTAs are largely locked in. The company added that its core approach sets volumes on an annual basis, with pricing reviewed and adjusted each quarter.

Notably, Kioxia also highlighted that several hyperscaler customers have already proposed LTAs covering 2027 and 2028, and the company is actively engaging in positive negotiations.
