China’s display manufacturers are making significant strides, showcasing growing competitiveness in next-generation panel technologies such as AMOLED. According to EE Times China, TCL CSOT’s G8.6 printed OLED production line (T8 project) in Guangzhou has officially broken ground.
As the report highlights, with a total investment of about 29.5 billion yuan, the project is the world’s first G8.6 printed OLED production line moving toward mass production, marking a notable step forward for Chinese display makers in AMOLED technology.
Printed OLED technology, unlike traditional vacuum-evaporation methods, functions like “inkjet printing,” precisely depositing organic light-emitting materials onto the substrate. It offers higher material efficiency, improved yield potential, and easier scalability for large and flexible displays, making it a key direction for next-generation display technology, according to the report citing Jun Zhao, Senior Vice President of TCL Technology and CEO of TCL CSOT.
TCL CSOT’s T8 project, according to the report, is designed with a monthly capacity to process 22,500 glass substrates (measuring 2290mm × 2620mm), which will accelerate the large-scale adoption of printed OLED technology in the global mid- to high-end market. In its initial phase, production will focus on medium-sized applications such as monitors, laptops, and tablets, with plans to expand into high value-added sectors including automotive displays and medical equipment.
In addition, the T8 project, as the report notes, will integrate advanced technologies such as industrial robotics, AI large models, new materials, and renewable energy to build a benchmark smart factory.
By establishing an industrial ecosystem spanning materials, equipment, panels, and end products, the project has attracted cooperation intentions from several leading global suppliers and is expected to accelerate the development of China’s domestic supply chain ecosystem, as the report highlights.
