As Samsung accelerates the development of its Taylor plant following a $16.5 billion AI6 order from Tesla, the company is set to receive an additional boost with $250 million (about 346 billion KRW) in subsidies from the state of Texas, according to ZDNet.
The move, which comes after Texas granted Samsung $270 million (approximately 373 billion KRW) back in 2021, was announced by Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced on September 17th, as per the report,
As ZDNet points out, the subsidy stems from Samsung’s more than $4.73 billion investment in the Taylor fab and will be distributed through the Texas Semiconductor Innovation Fund (TSIF). Since breaking ground on its Austin fab in 1996, Samsung has poured over $40 billion into Texas, marking the largest foreign direct investment in the state’s history, ZDNet highlights.
The report further notes that the announcement came during a meeting between Governor Greg Abbott and Samsung executives, including Vice Chairman Chun Young-hyun, head of the Device Solutions Division.
Samsung’s Taylor Update
According to JoongAng IIbo, Samsung’s Taylor plant is slated to start operations in 2026, with plans to hire up to 2,000 workers. By the end of last year, the site’s direct and indirect workforce reportedly reached 3,664, excluding construction staff.
As SEDaily reported, Taylor Fab 1 is 91.8% complete as of Q1, with full construction expected by late October. The cleanroom will be finished by year-end, paving the way for semiconductor equipment installation next year, the report suggested.
