According to Economic Daily News, TSMC’s former Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy Development, Wei-Jen Lo, retired on the 27th, becoming the fourth senior executive to step down in recent months. As more top executives reach retirement age, TSMC is actively advancing its internal leadership succession, with the next generation of leaders steadily emerging.
The report indicates that TSMC recently announced another internal personnel change: Senior Vice President Lora Ho has transitioned to lead the Corporate Strategy Development organization while continuing to head the Corporate Sustainability organization. The Human Resources organization will now be led by Vice President P.H. Chen.
As noted by the report, public information shows that prior to Wei-Jen Lo, three other senior TSMC executives had recently retired or announced their retirement. They include former Senior Vice President Rick Cassidy, who will retire in January 2026 and has stepped down as Chairman and Director of TSMC Arizona to serve as Executive Advisor; former Senior Vice President J.K. Lin, who retired in April and became an advisor to MediaTek; and Chen-Hua Douglas Yu, one of TSMC’s “Six R&D Knights” and former Vice President of R&D / TSMC Academy Fellow, who retired in July.
As the report indicates, Wei-Jen Lo joined TSMC in 2004 as Vice President of Operations Organization II, served as Vice President of R&D from 2006 to 2009, and was later promoted to Vice President of Manufacturing Technology in the Advanced Technology Business and Operations Organization.
Wei-Jen Lo earned both his master’s and Ph.D. in solid-state physics and surface chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. Over his 21 years at TSMC, he focused on delivering innovative, customer-driven solutions, leading his team to secure over 1,500 patents worldwide—including around 1,000 in the U.S.—making significant contributions to TSMC’s advanced technology development, as the report highlights.
Notably, prior to joining TSMC, Wei-Jen Lo served as Director of Advanced Technology Development and CTM Plant Manager at Intel. From 1997 to 2000, he was responsible for overseeing the operations of Intel’s facility in Santa Clara County, California, according to Liberty Times.
