Recently, China Electronics System Engineering No. 2 Construction Co., Ltd. (CESE2) announced the successful roll-out of the first batch of products from the 8-inch MEMS wafer production line project at the China Bengbu Sensor Valley. This marks China’s first fully automated 8-inch MEMS wafer production line and also the first piezoelectric MEMS mass production line with a complete set of process equipment officially commences production.

Previously, China has relied heavily on imports for high-end MEMS chips. The commissioning of this production line is expected to effectively alleviate the domestic production capacity shortage and enable localization in key fields, particularly in automotive electronics and industrial control, thereby ensuring the security of the industrial chain.

Furthermore, the establishment and launch of the China’s first fully automated 8-inch MEMS wafer production line signify Bengbu city’s transformation from a traditional manufacturing center into an innovation hub centered on smart sensors. This national strategic project, with a total investment of CNY 5.06 billion (USD 710 million), covers an area of 79 acres and has a planned total construction area of approximately 60,000 square meters. Once fully completed, its massive production capacity of 30,000 wafers per month will not only solidify its leading position in domestic MEMS production but also underpin the autonomy and control of China’s high-end manufacturing supply chain.
