[News] Samsung Reportedly Sends Chip Team to Texas, Sparking Rumors of U.S. Client Deals

According to a report from Liberty Times, citing South Korean outlet FNnews, sources say that Samsung has deployed personnel with expertise across various fields of chip manufacturing to its plant in Texas. Wccftech notes that the move is likely aimed at accelerating construction of the Taylor facility—and suggests that U.S. firms may be expressing interest in placing chip orders with the company.

However, there may be another reason behind Samsung’s push to expedite completion of the Taylor fab. As Tom’s Hardware highlights, the company needs to have the facility operational in order to qualify for CHIPS Act funding.

Previously, Tom’s Hardware, citing Nikkei, reported that Samsung had postponed the launch of the Taylor fab primarily due to difficulties securing customers for its chip output.

As further noted by Nikkei, documents from Samsung C&T—the construction arm of Samsung Electronics overseeing the project—showed that construction was 91.8% complete as of March. Although the fab was initially slated for completion in April 2024, a filing submitted to South Korea’s financial regulator in May indicates that the deadline has now been extended to the end of October 2025.

Meanwhile, Chosun Biz reports that Samsung is aiming to raise 2nm yield rates to around 70 percent by the end of this year. The outlet highlights that the key challenge is stabilizing yields and securing U.S. clients ahead of full-scale production at the Taylor fab, given the size of the investment.

As indicated by SamMobile, the Taylor facility is expected to manufacture advanced 3nm and 2nm chips, with mass production targeted for late 2026.
