According to Oregon Live, Intel’s mass layoffs escalated significantly Friday evening, as the company revealed plans to cut nearly 2,400 jobs in Oregon, almost five times more than previously disclosed.

Earlier in the week, Intel informed Oregon state officials of plans to lay off more than 500 employees. However, an updated figure released by the state Friday evening raised the total to 2,392, marking one of the largest layoffs in Oregon’s history, as the report highlights.

As the report notes, Intel has now disclosed plans to lay off at least 3,999 employees across its U.S. sites in Oregon, California, Arizona, and Texas by mid-July. The company has also indicated that additional job cuts may continue in the coming weeks.

Oregon serves as Intel’s largest campus. Despite eliminating 3,000 jobs there last year, the company still had 20,000 employees in Washington County at the start of this week, according to the report.

Friday’s announcement includes more than 1,500 job cuts at Intel’s Hillsboro manufacturing campus, the company’s largest site in Oregon. The cuts appear to have hit technicians the hardest. As the report highlights, Intel is reportedly cutting one in every five positions within Intel Foundry.

In addition to the cuts in Oregon, Intel is laying off 410 employees in Santa Clara, where it is headquartered, and another 174 in Folsom, according to WARN filings cited by SFGate. These updated notices more than double the previously announced layoffs in both locations, as the report points out.

Global Round of Intel Layoffs Hits Ireland and Israel

The wave of Intel layoffs is global. According to Globes, the layoff rate at Intel’s Irish plant will be around 4%, relatively low by global standards—likely due to the site’s strategic role in producing the company’s more advanced chips, including 3nm and 4nm technologies.

Meanwhile, CTech, citing sources, notes that up to 200 employees may be laid off at Intel’s Kiryat Gat plant in Israel. The cuts are expected to primarily affect two groups: mid-level managers and technicians working in the Remote Operations Center (ROC). Sources cited in the report indicate that the reductions of ROC workers are tied to Intel’s global push to implement new automation systems.

Alongside the job cuts in Israel, Intel is also trimming its stake in Mobileye, its autonomous driving subsidiary based in Jerusalem, according to The Times of Israel. On July 8th, Mobileye announced that Intel will sell 45 million shares, valued at approximately $900 million, as the report notes.
