On May 20, Qualcomm announced that it has signed a new multi-year cooperation agreement with Xiaomi, marking a new phase in their deepening collaboration — extending from smartphones to a comprehensive smart ecosystem.
Under the agreement, Xiaomi’s flagship smartphones will continue to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8-series mobile platforms, covering multiple product generations, and will be marketed both in China and globally. Qualcomm noted that Xiaomi will be among the first manufacturers to adopt the next-generation Snapdragon 8-series flagship platform later this year.
Looking ahead, Qualcomm and Xiaomi will continue to work closely to drive technological advancement across a wide range of edge devices, including smartphones, automobiles, AR/VR glasses, wearables, and tablets.
The partnership between Qualcomm and Xiaomi has spanned 15 years. Cristiano Amon, President and CEO of Qualcomm, stated that the Snapdragon platform will continue to empower Xiaomi’s flagship smartphones. He also expressed anticipation for expanding the partnership to new areas, including automotive, smart home, wearables, AR/VR glasses, and tablets.
Since Xiaomi’s first smartphone adopted a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip in 2011, the collaboration has lasted 15 years. Qualcomm’s chips have enabled Xiaomi to rapidly rise from a startup to become the world’s third-largest smartphone manufacturer. Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s large-scale procurement of Qualcomm’s flagship chips has helped Qualcomm solidify its market position.
According to previous data from global market research firm TrendForce, total global smartphone production reached 335 million units in Q4 2024, a 9.2% quarter-on-quarter increase. Xiaomi (including Redmi and POCO), ranking third globally, produced 44.5 million units in Q4 2024, up 4.7% QoQ. Xiaomi’s total production for 2024 reached 170 million units, an annual growth of 15.3%.
TrendForce noted that Xiaomi’s comprehensive product portfolio — spanning high, mid, and entry-level segments — coupled with a high cost-performance marketing strategy, has made it increasingly favored during the economic slowdown. Benefited from consumer subsidy policies, Xiaomi’s market share in China has increased in 2024, and is expected to continue growing in 2025.
