[News] Vertilite to Build InP Laser Chip Base in China’s Changzhou with RMB 5 Billion
On August 11, Vertilite Inc., a leading supplier of compound semiconductor optical chips, signed an agreement to locate its high-end optical communication chip and device R&D and manufacturing base in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province.
Representing a total projected investment of approximately RMB 5 billion, the project will focus on the research, development, and high-volume manufacturing of high-end Indium Phosphide (InP) laser chips.
Vertilite has already achieved mass production of both Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) and InP optical chips. Since establishing its footprint in the Wujin National Hi-Tech Industrial Zone in 2018, the company has consistently expanded its portfolio across VCSEL chips and broader compound semiconductor technologies.
Driven by surging demand from AI computing infrastructure and high-speed optical communications, this latest investment aims to significantly scale its InP R&D and production throughput.
According to Qichacha corporate records, Vertilite updated its registered capital in June 2026, adding Shanghai Yunchang Enterprise Management Consulting Co., Ltd.—a wholly owned subsidiary of Ant Group—to its cap table.
Vertilite’s current operational layout spans a manufacturing center in Changzhou, an R&D hub in the United States, and a supply chain management center in Taiwan:
Changzhou Manufacturing Hub: Equipped with MOCVD epitaxy systems for 6-inch GaAs wafer growth, featuring full back-end packaging, testing, and qualification capabilities for both bare VCSEL (vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser) dies and integrated modules.
FabX Facility: In September 2025, Vertilite completed and commissioned its RMB 550 million “FabX” facility in the Wujin High-Tech Zone. Spanning 40 mu (approx. 2.67 hectares) with a floor area of 28,000 square meters, the plant is designed for large-scale production of both GaAs and InP chips upon reaching full capacity.
To date, Vertilite has secured backing from over 20 prominent institutional and strategic investors, including Huawei’s Hubble Technology Investment, Xiaomi, BYD, DJI, and the State Development Bank Manufacturing Fund.
