According to ijiwei, Chinese EDA giant Empyrean Technology has reportedly launched the country’s first full-process EDA solution for memory chips that supports mass production of Flash and DRAM, enabling one-stop design–verification–manufacturing. The report adds that the solution is expected to improve the reliability and success rate of memory chip tape-outs.
As the report indicates, Empyrean Technology’s solution addresses the bottlenecks of traditional design methods, making it a an important driver of China’s memory chip market development.
Meanwhile, as noted by STCN, on August 16, Empyrean Technology released its 2025 semi-annual report. In the first half of the year, the company recorded revenue of RMB 502 million, up 13.01% year-on-year, while net profit attributable to shareholders was RMB 3.0679 million, down 91.9% from a year earlier.
Notably, according to ICsmart, Empyrean maintained a consistently high level of R&D investment in the first half of this year, leading to a sharp contraction in profits. As the report points out, during the reporting period the company’s R&D expenses totaled RMB 365.31 million, accounting for 72.84% of revenue.
Empyrean has explored acquisitions before. The company previously announced plans to acquire Xpeedic, but the deal fell through. According to Chinese media outlet ITHome, Empyrean said it would no longer proceed with the acquisition after failing to reach agreement on key terms.
The global EDA market remains dominated by U.S. and European firms. According to TrendForce, as of 2024, Synopsys, Cadence, and Siemens held 31%, 30%, and 13% of global market share, respectively. TrendForce projects that by 2024, China’s self-sufficiency rate in EDA software exceeded 10%—a marked improvement from previous years. Domestic players such as Empyrean and Primarius have posted rapid growth.
