MediaTek has unveiled the Dimensity 9500s and Dimensity 8500, targeting the upper-midrange smartphone market. According to ijiwei, the Dimensity 9500s represents an expansion of the Dimensity 9000 series lineup. It is built on TSMC’s 3nm process and continues MediaTek’s all-big-core CPU architecture.

Notably, as the report highlights, MediaTek has equipped the Dimensity 9500s with a high-capacity cache architecture totaling 29MB across L2, L3, and system cache. This design helps reduce memory bandwidth pressure and enhances performance in multi-threaded and heavy workloads—for example, enabling more stable gaming frame rates, faster app switching, and more efficient AI computing.

Another major contributor to gaming and AI performance is the GPU. The Dimensity 9500s features a 12-core Immortalis-G925 GPU. As Wccftech notes, this GPU supports next-generation ray tracing and Opacity Micromap (OMM) technology, delivering higher graphical fidelity while improving rendering efficiency and overall scene quality.

As Android Headlines points out, the new chip could help manufacturers offer more affordable flagship-style smartphones, especially as component costs continue to rise. The report adds that this strategy mirrors Qualcomm’s approach with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, a slightly less powerful variant of its top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite 5. Meanwhile, according to ijiwei, sources say the REDMI Turbo 5 Max may be the first smartphone to launch with the Dimensity 9500s.

Dimensity 8500 Targets Gaming with Efficiency-Focused Design

Apart from the Dimensity 9500s, MediaTek also introduced the Dimensity 8500, positioned as a gaming-focused mobile platform. As ijiwei notes, energy efficiency stands out as one of the chip’s most notable strengths. According to MediaTek’s press release, the Dimensity 8500 is built on an energy-efficient 4nm process.

In addition, as ijiwei indicates, the Dimensity 8500 adopts a second-generation all-big-core CPU design, delivering a 7% performance improvement in Geekbench v6.4. On the GPU side, the chip achieves a 25% boost in peak gaming performance by increasing GPU core count, while peak power consumption drops by 20%. In real-world gaming tests, the report adds that several leading mainstream titles were able to maintain full frame rates while achieving double-digit power savings compared with competing platforms.
