NVIDIA is reportedly joining forces with Deutsche Telekom AG to construct a EUR 1 billion (approximately USD 1.16 billion) data center in Germany, marking a significant step in the chipmaker’s effort to strengthen its artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure across Europe.

According to sources familiar with the matter, both NVIDIA and Deutsche Telekom will jointly fund the project, which forms part of a broader initiative to expand the continent’s AI infrastructure. Europe’s largest software company, SAP SE, is expected to be one of the facility’s key clients.

The project is set to be formally announced next month at an event in Berlin, attended by Deutsche Telekom CEO Tim Höttges, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, SAP CEO Christian Klein, and Germany’s Minister for Digital and Transport Affairs Carsten Wiedelberg.

The planned facility is expected to deploy around 10,000 advanced graphics processing units (GPUs). While this represents a major investment for Europe, it is notably smaller in scale than the massive U.S. data center being developed in Texas by SoftBank Group, OpenAI, and Oracle, which is projected to house around 500,000 GPUs.
