Beijing is stepping up its anti-dumping probe into U.S. analog chips. Following the Ministry of Commerce’s announcement, authorities have swiftly moved to implement the investigations. According to Bloomberg, China’s Trade Remedy and Investigation Bureau under the Ministry of Commerce has issued detailed questionnaires as part of its anti-dumping probe into U.S.-made analog ICs. Although the survey does not identify any companies by name, Tom’s Hardware notes that it appears to target major U.S. chipmakers such as Texas Instruments and Analog Devices.

As noted by Chinese media outlet EE Times China, the Ministry has issued three types of questionnaires for the investigation: one for foreign exporters or producers, one for domestic manufacturers, and one for domestic importers. The notice date marks the official release of the questionnaires, and all relevant parties are required to complete them truthfully within 37 days of issuance.

The bureau is collecting detailed data on chip sales in China, including cost and profit comparisons with their home markets. It also requests the names of Chinese customers, transaction details such as sales volumes, related expenses from logistics to warehousing, and information on raw material suppliers linked to these U.S. chipmakers, Bloomberg reports.

Bloomberg points out that analog chips are vital components in a wide range of products—from smartphones and electric vehicles to medical imaging equipment. If the investigation escalates or results in new trade barriers, U.S. chipmakers could face regulatory scrutiny in one of their largest export markets, according to gurufocus.

The announcement of Beijing’s intensified efforts comes just ahead of expected U.S.-China talks. U.S. President Donald Trump is set to visit Asia, with planned stops in Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea. According to Seeking Alpha, he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping during the trip.
