[News] Taiwanese Tech Firms Poised to Gain from Switch 2 Supply Chain, with MediaTek and Realtek in the Lead
Nintendo’s next-generation console, the Switch 2, recently had its motherboard revealed and is slated for global release on June 5. According to Commercial Times, the device’s supply chain has attracted significant attention, with several Taiwanese tech companies involved.
As noted by CNBC, Nintendo said it expects to sell 15 million units of its upcoming Switch 2 console during the fiscal year ending March 2026.
CNBC mentions that Nintendo postponed U.S. pre-orders for the Switch 2 in April following the announcement of broad tariffs introduced by the Trump administration. The company’s consoles are produced in Vietnam, which will face a 46% duty once the tariff pause is lifted, the report adds.
As noted by Commercial Times, key Taiwanese suppliers for the Switch 2 motherboard include MediaTek for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip, Realtek for audio, Unimicron for the PCB, and PixArt for the sensor chips for the controllers.
NVIDIA’s SoC Taps Samsung 8nm; SK hynix Joins as Key Supplier
As highlighted by Commercial Times, the Switch 2 will reportedly feature NVIDIA’s T239 system-on-chip (SoC), manufactured using Samsung’s 8nm process. This marks a shift from the previous generation’s Tegra X1 chip, which used TSMC’s process—reportedly due to cost considerations.
Notably, Commercial Times highlights South Korean memory giant SK hynix as a key supplier of LPDDR5 and NAND for the upcoming Switch 2. While the exact configuration remains unconfirmed, sources reveal that the console is rumored to feature 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM from SK hynix in dual-channel mode with a 128-bit memory interface, as noted by TechSpot.
