iPhone shipments in 2014 increased to 188.1 million units, up 22% on year, as strong demand for the new large-screen iPhone 6 reversed a year of declining sales, according to DRAMeXchange, a division of the Taiwan-based market intelligence firm TrendForce. “The strong performance of the iPhone 6 reaffirms Apple’s leadership position among high-end smartphone vendors,” said Sean Yang, an assistant vice president at DRAMeXchange.

Panel prices set to fall in fourth quarter, says TrendForce

21 October 2014

In the fourth quarter of 2014, price trends for the TV and notebook panel segments will diverge. Despite lackluster sales during China’s week-long October National Day holiday, TV panel prices have continued to rise, but with notebook demand forecast to begin dropping off this month – it has been robust up to this point – and continue to fall throughout the fourth quarter, price growth in that segment will slow, according to WitsView.

Global smartphone shipments grew 9.1% to reach 310 million units in the peak-season third quarter, buoyed by the iPhone 6 launch. Apple’s market share expanded 5% on year, the most of any major handset brand. The larger screen of the new iPhone was a decisive factor in Apple’s strong performance, said Avril Wu, an assistant vice president at TrendForce, a Taiwan-based market intelligence firm.
