The Upcoming Connected Era Will Drive the Demand for Memory Products, Yet Suppliers Need to Make Breakthroughs in Costs and Overcome Technical Barriers, Says TrendForce

22 May 2018

The upcoming fully connected era has witnessed influx of data, driving the construction of data centers. The amount of data will keep growing at multiples in the next 5 to 10 years. Key techniques like edge computing and 5G, which emphasizes high transmission efficiency, low latency and wide area connection, will lead the next wave of smart technology. Against this background, various types of chips and sensors will see explosive growth, says DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce. The demand for DRAM and NAND products will also increase.

Global Mobile DRAM Revenue Reached a New Record High in 1Q18 on the Back of Rising Prices, Says TrendForce

21 May 2018

DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, reports that the smartphone market entered its traditional off-peak season earlier in the middle 4Q17 as the new devices released during 2H17 did not trigger a high level of replacement demand as anticipated. Smartphone brands had then spent three months adjusting their inventories before they again started to stock up on components toward the end of February 2018, when the end demand also began to bounce back. Much of the stock-up demand has been related to high-density memory components for new flagship smartphones that are to be released in 1H18. Revenue-wise, mobile DRAM suppliers in 1Q18 benefitted from new product releases, demand recovery in the smartphone market (since the middle of the quarter), and the increase in quotes. As a result, the global mobile DRAM revenue rose by 5.3% QoQ against seasonal headwinds to a new record high of US$8.435 billion.

17 May 2018

TrendForce has reported the revenue ranking of the global top 10 fabless IC design houses for 1Q18. MediaTek and Novatek showed declines compared with the same period of last year, while other companies staged revenue growth. Among them, AMD witnessed a remarkable year-on-year growth of 67.4%, while NVIDIA staged a growth of 50.6%.

The Average Contract Prices of Enterprise SSD May Fall by 10% in 2Q18 due to Suppliers' Aggressive Price Strategy and Pressure to Consume Production Capacity, Says TrendForce

17 May 2018

According to the report of DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, the Enterprise SSD market has been expanding in recent years driven by the development of data center, AI, big data, 5G, and edge computing. The shipments of Enterprise SSD are expected to reach 30 million units this year, up from less than 20 million units in 2016. The year-on-year bit shipment growth of Enterprise SSD has been over 50% since 2016, showing the strongest growth momentum among all NAND Flash applications. The rapid growth is expected to continue in the next three years.
