Global smartphone shipments to reach 322 million in 3Q14; iPhone to drive 4G penetration rate in China

Smartphone shipments are expected to reach 322 million in the third quarter of 2014, up 13% on quarter, and see flat shipment growth on year in the fourth quarter, while overall shipments in 2014 will reach 1.2 billion, up 29.2% on year, according to market intelligence firm TrendForce. Growth will be driven primarily by the release of the new iPhone and new units launched from Chinese vendors.

The quickly spreading LED lighting market has attracted international manufacturers to enter China’s LED package market, according to the latest “China’s LED Package Industry Market Report 2014” by LEDinside, a subdivision of global market research organization TrendForce. In 2013, the Chinese LED package market value was up 20% Year-on-Year (YoY) to US$7.2 billion. Top 10 ranking manufacturers in the industry clinched a combined market share of 43.6%.

For the entire 2Q14, global DRAM industry value reached US$10.8 billion, an increase of 9% compared to the previous quarter, according to DRAMeXchange, the memory and storage research division of TrendForce. The impressive scale of the industry’s value, along with the market's improved profitability, are the result of the DRAM manufacturers' effective product mix adjustments.
