TrendForce Estimates Annual Sales Revenue Worldwide from Fabless IC Design to Drop 3.2% in 2016 but Will Grow 3.4% in 2017

The latest estimate from market research firm TrendForce puts sales revenue worldwide from fabless IC design for 2016 at US$77.49 billion, a decline of 3.2% from 2015. However, TrendForce expects strong growth in several application markets in 2017, such as automotive electronics. The global fabless IC design industry’s annual sales revenue will grow again in 2018 by 3.4%, totaling around US$80.59 billion.

Tight Supply of Upstream Components Results in Limited Reductions in Production Costs for LCD Panels During Fourth Quarter, Says TrendForce

WitsView, a division of TrendForce, reports that the LCD panel market during this fourth quarter has witnessed strong demand as consumer electronics brands stock up for their holiday promotions. At the same time, panel makers are facing tighter supply for some upstream components. As upstream suppliers are less willing to make further price concessions, panel makers are constrained in their cost-cutting efforts. In general, the cash costs of LCD panels in the fourth quarter of 2016 have fallen by just 1~2% compared with the prior quarter.

Global Mobile DRAM Revenue Rose 16.8% Sequentially in Third Quarter, Says TrendForce

DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce, reports that sales of mobile DRAM surged in the third quarter as the smartphone industry was in its traditional inventory buildup season and the global DRAM market enjoyed an across-the-broad price increase. Consequently, the mobile DRAM revenue for the quarter rose by about 16.8% sequentially to around US$4.59 billion.
