Korean Quake on Nov. 15 Doesn't Influence Panel Industry Much, Says TrendForce

At 2:29 p.m. on November 15 of South Korea's local time (1:29 p.m. of Taiwan's local time), a 5.5-magnitude shock struck Korea's east coast. The epic center is located at 9 kilometers north to Pohang City, North Gyeongsang Province. Its depth was about 9 kilometers deep. About this surprising incident in Korea, WitsView, a division of TrendForce, analyzed that it influenced very little to the entire panel industry.

TrendForce Reports a 0.7% YoY Growth beyond Expectation for 2017 Notebook Shipments; Apple Exceeded ASUS to Rank No. 4

Market research firm TrendForce reports that the global notebook shipments for this third quarter registered a remarkable quarterly increase of 6.8% and a year-on-year increase of 0.9%, reaching 42.69 million units. The overall performance of notebook shipments brought by peak season exceeded the previous expectations.

Revenue of the entire global DRAM industry climbed to a new historic high for the third quarter of 2017, reports DRAMeXchange, a division of TrendForce. Contract prices of various DRAM products jumped by about 5% on average in the third quarter from the second quarter on the back of the year-end busy season and limited bit supply growth. As the market still experienced tight supply, total DRAM revenue for the third quarter rose by 16.2% from the second quarter.

TrendForce Projects Global Smartphone Production for 4Q17 to Grow by 6.3% YoY as iPhone X Drives Quarterly Total to Its Peak for the Year

TrendForce’s latest analysis of the global smartphone market finds that sales are growing again due to the effects of the year-end busy season. The global smartphone production volume for the third quarter of 2017 totaled 384 million units, registering a year-on-year increase of 6%. Chinese brands together posted a much higher year-on-year growth of 20%. In terms of ranking by production volume, Samsung, Apple, Huawei, OPPO and Vivo still held their respective positions in the top five for the third quarter, while Xiaomi followed at sixth place.
