TrendForce’s latest report, “Global EV Inverter Market Data,” reveals that global installations of EV traction inverters reached 7.66 million units in 2Q25, up 19% YoY, buoyed by strong BEV sales. BEVs accounted for 52% of installations, once again taking the lead since 1Q24 and surpassing the combined share of hybrids, including HEVs, PHEVs, and REEVs.
Among Tier-1 suppliers, BYD and Denso led the market with 17% and 14% shares, respectively. Huawei benefited from strong BEV and REEV sales, lifting its share from 3% to 4%. The market is increasingly dominated by Chinese players; in addition to BYD and Huawei, Inovance has also firmly secured a position among the top five suppliers.
SiC inverters reached a 17% penetration rate in 2Q25. While still concentrated in BEVs, adoption is expanding to PHEVs and REEVs, which together accounted for nearly 19% of SiC inverter installations—entirely contributed by Chinese automakers. Notably, 20% of REEV main-drive inverters now use SiC, second only to BEVs at 31%. Rising REEV demand has not displaced other powertrain types but instead expanded the overall inverter market, making REEVs a critical catalyst for SiC adoption.
TrendForce notes that as REEVs mature, they will help diversify the SiC inverter market, reducing overreliance on BEVs. China remains the largest market for PHEV, REEV, and BEV inverters, spurring companies such as Infineon to ramp up production in China to capture growth. Overall, China’s robust EV ecosystem is shifting the balance of influence across the supply chain, making it harder for non-Chinese automakers to close the gap.
Note: EVs include HEVs, BEVs, PHEVs, REEVs, and FCVs.
