TrendForce Reports Stable Prices for Both Global LED Light Bulb Market and Chinese Package Market in June

2016/07/11

LED

The global average sales price (ASP) of 40-watt equivalent LED light bulbs in June fell 02% compared with the prior month to US$95, says the latest price report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce The global ASP of 60-watt equivalent light bulb also dropped 01% monthly to US$129  LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said LED lighting demand bounced back in the second quarter, leading to the stabilization of prices across all segments of the supply chain from chips and packages to end products While the decline of LED light bulb prices moderated in the second quarter, the highly competitive market and technological advances ensure that the downtrend will continue through the year For the first half of 2016, the global ASP of 40-watt equivalent LED light bulbs dropped 10 % compared with the same period a year ago, while the 60-watt counterparts saw a decline of 11% In the Chinese package market, the ASP of the most widely used 2835 LED remained steady in June The ASP of high-power 3030 LED also ceased to slide On the other hand, the ASP of standard 5630 LED in the Chinese market fell because of adjustments made by several international suppliers Yu pointed out that the Chinese package market have finally begun to recover in the second quarter after experiencing plummeting prices last year Though prices are gradually stabilizing, package suppliers’ profitability outlook is still unfavorable in the short term Product margins are generally low and suppliers face strong resistance to raising prices To find out the latest retail prices of LED light bulbs, please visit LEDinside’s price quote webpage at http://wwwledinsidecom/pricequotes/led_bulb

Revenue Ranking in China’s LED Package Market Last Year Shows Nichia Retained No. 1 Spot While Domestic Suppliers Achieved Impressive Results

2016/06/27

LED

China has become a major battleground for local and international LED package suppliers as the competition in the global LED market continues to intensify The 2016 Chinese LED Chip and Package Industry Market Report by LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, finds Nichia held on to its position as the revenue leader in the Chinese package market for 2015, while Lumileds rose to second place and MLS followed at third The top 10 LED package suppliers in the 2015 global revenue ranking generated a total of US$33 billion, down 15% from 2014 Together they controlled 38% of the Chinese package market, showing an annual decline of 8% The market last year was still fragmented among various players LEDinside analyst Allen Yu noted that international package companies represented five of the top 10 suppliers in China by revenue for last year Domestic package companies also showed their strength by taking three spots in this ranking Chinese suppliers were able to deliver impressive revenue results and wrest market shares away from their international suppliers by offering products with high-cost performance ratios and narrowing the technology gap with the international competitors It is expected that more suppliers in China’s top 10 ranking will be domestic in the future Nichia saw its revenue from China fell significantly last year on account of exchange rate fluctuations and changes in the company’s operations Nonetheless, Nichia remained as the revenue leader in China despite suffering notable loss in the local market share Lumileds climbed to the No 2 spot in the Chinese market ranking because the rapid growth in the general lighting and automotive lighting sectors boosted its revenue considerably Major domestic supplier MLS stayed at No 3 even as its market share in China dropped a little Taiwan-based Everlight expanded its presence in the Chinese market by developing different applications such as automotive lighting LEDs, fine-pitch display LEDs and flash LEDs Everlight was placed fourth in the 2015 Chinese market ranking OSRAM Opto followed at fifth as it also found success in the automotive lighting sector as well as in the infrared (IR) LED market NationStar jumped to the seventh place due to its efforts in the fine-pitch display LED market Honglitronic’s revenue expanded substantially after its acquisition of Smalite and became one of the top 10 suppliers in China for the first time last year, knocking Advanced Optoelectronic Technology (AOT) out of the ranking

Scale of Chinese LED Package Market to Expand by 5% Annually in 2016 as Demand Recovers, Says TrendForce

2016/06/15

LED

The scale of China’s LED package industry grew just 2% annually to US$88 billion in 2015, according to the 2016 Chinese LED Chip and Package Industry Report by LEDinside, a division of TrendForce The weak performance of the Chinese LED industry last year was mainly attributed to the global economic slowdown LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said the market is showing some signs of rebound this year as branded lighting vendors have been restocking their inventories, thereby generating demand and boosting the capacity utilization of LED chip suppliers Only a few chip suppliers have raised prices, but their efforts are enough to stop the general downtrend in the chip market Consequently, package prices will also remain stable in the short term As the industry enters its maturation phase, technological advances have lowered LED usage volumes for some applications and caused these markets to contract LEDinside projects the scale of the Chinese LED package industry to grow 5% annually in 2016 to US$93 billion The main growth driver for the Chinese package industry last year was the lighting sector However, lighting’s contribution to demand growth was smaller than anticipated due to the weak US and European economies Yu pointed out that the Chinese exports of LED lighting products slowed down dramatically from the annual growth rate of 60% in 2014 to 16% in 2015, when they reached US$164 billion in value The scale of China’s LED backlight market has contracted as technological improvements continue to reduce LED usage volume As for the Chinese LED display market, demand is growing for the fine-pitch LED display application, but this market is still too small to make a significant contribution to the overall demand As Chinese package suppliers increase their market shares, foreign competitors adopt strategies to differentiate themselves LED package suppliers saw their revenues being squeezed last year as LED lighting vendors, who were under immense competitive pressure, compelled them to cut prices as well China was the weakest region for foreign suppliers as their revenues from that market fell by 10% on average in 2015 Chinese suppliers, by contrast, posted annual revenue growth of 7% on average for the same year Chinese package companies increased their revenues against the market headwinds because they benefitted from the successes of their compatriot LED lighting vendors in Southeast Asia, India and other emerging markets Yu expects non-Chinese package suppliers to differentiate their products and develop new market segments as to avoid head-on price competition against the Chinese suppliers

TrendForce Finds Prices in China’s LED Package Market Stabilized During May as Demand Showed Signs of Picking Up

2016/06/07

LED

LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, reports that the global average sales price (ASP) of 40-watt  equivalent LED light bulb stood at US$96 in May, translating to a monthly drop of 16% The global ASP of 60-watt equivalent LED light bulbs in same month also fell 14% compared with April to US$129 LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said the LED industry was showing signs of rebound in the second quarter In the chip market, the downtrend came to an end and some product prices even went up The prices of LED light bulbs also slowed down their decline In China’s LED package market, prices of 2835 and 5630 packages for both standard and mid-power segments remained steady On the other hand, prices of high-power 3030 packages fell noticeably Rising demand in the high-power segment has led to more suppliers entering the market and thus more competition Furthermore, the decline in prices of high-power products was sharper compared with the moderate downtrend in the prior period Taiwanese LED manufacturer Epistar announced price hike for some chip products at the beginning of May Though Chinese manufacturers have not followed suit, they are unlikely to lower their prices further for the short term Hence, Yu pointed out that most  LED package prices stabilized during May To find out the latest retail prices of LED light bulbs, please visit LEDinside’s price quote webpage at http://wwwledinsidecom/pricequotes/led_bulb

Anticipation of Chinese Labor Day Sales Caused Prices of LED Light Bulbs to Drop Significantly in April, Says TrendForce

2016/05/05

LED

The global average sales price (ASP) of 40W-equivalent (equiv) LED light bulbs fell 59% in April compared with the prior month, arriving at US$97, while the ASP of 60W-equiv LED light bulbs fell 72% to US$131 LED light bulb prices in China have been on a downtrend because of sales activities related to the Chinese Labor Day holiday period, said Allen Yu, analyst for LEDinside, a division of TrendForce ASPs of LED light bulbs in other Asian regional markets have also dropped due to promotional pricing of some newly arrived products Prices have also kept falling in Europe and the US Decline in package prices was expected as demand gradually shifted to the mid-power segment Prices of 02W LED packages fell significantly in the first half of 2015, when their demand was at its highest and package manufacturers also aggressively lowered their prices to stay competitive Since then, prices of 02W packages have fallen to the point where manufacturers have difficulty to make significant further reduction On account of shrinking margins for standard LED products, manufacturers began to promote mid-power 05W packages in the latter half of 2015 This led to a rising demand for these products and an inevitable decline in their prices as more manufacturers competed in this market segment In April, prices of mid-power 5630 LED packages on average fell by 65% monthly International branded package suppliers such as LG and Lumileds experienced some price decline for their mid-power 5630 products as well The mid-power 2835 package type is now the mainstream specification for the lighting market, and the change in its monthly average price in April was a drop of 12% Prices of 05W LED components belonging to the 5630 and 2835 package types continued their descent in the Chinese market in April On the other hand, prices of 02W 2835 LED products and 1W 3030 products saw only minor changes during the same month To find out the latest retail prices of LED light bulbs, please visit LEDinside’s price quote webpage at http://wwwledinsidecom/pricequotes/led_bulb
