Anticipation of Chinese Labor Day Sales Caused Prices of LED Light Bulbs to Drop Significantly in April, Says TrendForce

2016/05/05

LED

The global average sales price (ASP) of 40W-equivalent (equiv) LED light bulbs fell 59% in April compared with the prior month, arriving at US$97, while the ASP of 60W-equiv LED light bulbs fell 72% to US$131 LED light bulb prices in China have been on a downtrend because of sales activities related to the Chinese Labor Day holiday period, said Allen Yu, analyst for LEDinside, a division of TrendForce ASPs of LED light bulbs in other Asian regional markets have also dropped due to promotional pricing of some newly arrived products Prices have also kept falling in Europe and the US Decline in package prices was expected as demand gradually shifted to the mid-power segment Prices of 02W LED packages fell significantly in the first half of 2015, when their demand was at its highest and package manufacturers also aggressively lowered their prices to stay competitive Since then, prices of 02W packages have fallen to the point where manufacturers have difficulty to make significant further reduction On account of shrinking margins for standard LED products, manufacturers began to promote mid-power 05W packages in the latter half of 2015 This led to a rising demand for these products and an inevitable decline in their prices as more manufacturers competed in this market segment In April, prices of mid-power 5630 LED packages on average fell by 65% monthly International branded package suppliers such as LG and Lumileds experienced some price decline for their mid-power 5630 products as well The mid-power 2835 package type is now the mainstream specification for the lighting market, and the change in its monthly average price in April was a drop of 12% Prices of 05W LED components belonging to the 5630 and 2835 package types continued their descent in the Chinese market in April On the other hand, prices of 02W 2835 LED products and 1W 3030 products saw only minor changes during the same month To find out the latest retail prices of LED light bulbs, please visit LEDinside’s price quote webpage at http://wwwledinsidecom/pricequotes/led_bulb

Global ASP of LED Light Bulbs Rose Slightly in March as Downtrends in Europe and the U.S. Moderated, TrendForce Reports

2016/04/07

LED

In March, the global average sales price (ASP) of 40W-equivalent (equiv) LED light bulbs rose 12% over the prior month to US$103, says the latest price report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce The global ASP of 60W-equiv LED light bulbs also saw a monthly increase of 08% to US$141 According to LEDinside analyst Allen Yu, the price trend in March was mainly the result of slowing declines in the US and Europe and recoveries in other regional markets Prices in Asia have bounced back with the exception of China In China’s LED package market, prices of high-power products of the 5630 and 3030 package types continued falling in March Prices of 2835 LED packages and other standard products were approaching their costs, so they did not have much room for further decline Competition intensified in the high-power LED package market in March and 3030 products saw larger price decline Standard LED package products became mostly unprofitable after their prices fell sharply in 2015 As a result, some manufacturers have abandoned the standard LED package market and move on to mid- and high-power markets In March, 2835 LED packages were on a stable price trend The average price of 3030 products, on the other hand, fell noticeably by 35% compared with February Yu pointed out that 3030 LED packages are expanding into a greater number of application fields, especially in the outdoor lighting sector (eg street and tunnel lights) Prices of 3030 LEDs are therefore expected to maintain downtrend in the short term as more manufacturers enter the market To find out the latest retail prices of LED light bulbs, please visit LEDinside’s price quote webpage at http://wwwledinsidecom/pricequotes/led_bulb

Prices of LED Light Bulbs Stayed Mostly Constant in February as Market Demand Rose Slowly, Says TrendForce

2016/03/07

LED

The latest report from LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, finds that the global average price of 40W-equivalent (equiv) LED light bulbs arrived at US$102 in February, down 06% from the prior month The global average price of 60W-equiv LED light bulbs also fell 05% monthly to US$14 in February “Though some parts of the US and European markets saw price decline, the prices of LED light bulbs remained mostly constant through February due to stable demand worldwide,” said LEDinside analyst Allen Yu Prices also stayed relatively unchanged in China as trading fell during the Chinese New Year holidays On the whole, the outlook of the LED industry is still gloomy and there is no sign of market demand picking up quickly Thus, prices of LED light bulbs worldwide will stay on a gradual downtrend The LED package market in China witnessed only slight price fluctuations during February because of the holiday season With the exception of 2825 LED products, other LED packages did not experience a notable price decline Prices were steady in Chinese LED package market during the February holiday season Due to the Chinese New Year holidays, most LED companies scaled back their operations and trading activities Prices remained constant for 5630 and EMC3030 LED products On the other hand, major manufacturers such as MLS and Refond lowered the prices of their 2835 LED products Hence, the average prices of 02W and 05W 2835 LED products respectively fell by 05% and 12% in February Yu added that the focus of product development in the lighting LED market has shifted to mid- and high-power LED packages The 05W segment in particular, is seeing rising demand and an increase in the number of competing suppliers Prices of 05W products will therefore continue to fall in the near future As for 02W products, their prices do not have much room for further reduction To find out the latest retail prices of LED light bulbs, please visit LEDinside’s price quote webpage at http://wwwledinsidecom/pricequotes/led_bulb

Promotional Activities Resulted in Falling Prices for LED Light Bulbs in Europe and the U.S. During January, TrendForce Reports

2016/02/03

LED

LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, reports that both the 40W-equivalent (equiv) and 60W-equiv LED light bulbs suffered decline in their global average retail prices in January The price of the 40W-equiv dropped 33% from December to US$103, while the price of the 60W-equiv ended up at US$141, amounting to a 25% monthly decline LEDinside analyst Allen Yu said that US and European lighting vendors maintained their promotional pricing through the turn of the year in order to boost sales, so some products in those markets experienced significant price declines In China, prices of LED light bulbs fell at a slower pace in January compared with the sharp drops in November and December of last year Prices of most products have stabilized as many local lighting vendors are shutting down earlier for the Chinese New Year holidays In Asia’s other regional markets, prices will remain in a downtrend The LED package market in China is also seeing a slowdown in trading as the country prepares for the upcoming holiday season Some LED packages experienced sharper price drops in January  Lack of trading activities ahead of the Chinese New Year holidays hurt prices of some LED packages The LED industry has undergone a modest recovery since the fourth quarter of 2015 In the January of this year, however, many package companies in China decided to close before the official start of the Chinese New Year holidays Trading therefore dropped considerably during the month, and there was marked decline in prices for some packages Set against December of last year, international LED manufacturers such as Samsung, Seoul Semiconductor (SSC) and LG Innotek lowered their prices for 5630 LED products by an average of 49% in January Besides, major manufacturers cut the prices of their 05W 2825 LED products by about US$0012, amounting to a monthly drop of 34% As for 02W 2835 LED products, their prices were near the cost price level after seeing sharp decline in 2015 Their prices therefore remained stable during January Yu said the Chinese LED package industry is still having excess capacity Furthermore, technological advances will result in LEDs producing greater brightness from the same chip surface area Hence, prices are expected to keep falling in the Chinese package market during 2016 For the latest reports on LED prices, please visit LEDinside’s website at http://wwwledinsidecom/

Prices of LED Light Bulbs Fell Further in December 2015 as Year-End Sales Swept Across Regional Markets, Says TrendForce

2016/01/11

LED

The latest report by LEDinside, a division of TrendForce, revealed that the global average price of 40W-equivalent (equiv) LED light bulbs arrived at US$106 in December 2015, down 16% from November The global average price of 60W-equiv LED bulbs for the same month also dropped 07% to US$145 In the US and Europe, prices of some products were still in decline in December on account of year-end sales, according to LEDinside analyst Allen Yu Promotional activities were not as significant in Asia through December, so prices remained stable in most of the countries in this region The only exception during the same month was China, where lighting vendors tried to boost their sales by maintaining low prices for some products after the Singles’ Day event in November The market recovery in December and the stock-up demand at the end of the year moderated the general price decline of LED package products in China Prices of standard LED packages were steady on the whole, while prices of mid- and high-power LED packages dropped slightly A year-end recovery moderated the price decline of LED packages Prices of mainstream LED packages were in a downtrend throughout 2015, with year-on-year declines ranging from 20% to 40% Products of the 2835 package type in particular suffered the steepest drop for the entire year Prices of 02W and 05W 2835 LED products respectively fell by 31% and 40% year on year Prices of 5630 and 3030 LED products on the other hand fell by around 20% year on year While the December recovery has slowed down the price slide in the LED package market, Yu noted that Chinese LED companies are still having excess capacity This problem is unlikely to go away in the short term even with demand starting to return in the fourth quarter of 2015 LEDinside therefore expects price decline to persist in the Chinese LED package market going into 2016 Year-end promotions resulted in reduced prices for LED light bulbs worldwide The UK was the regional market that had the largest decline in prices of 40W-equiv LED light bulbs for December, with an average monthly drop of 68% The same products also suffered a 36% price decline in the US, whereas prices in Germany were stable due to lack of significant year-end sales activities Prices of 40W-equiv LED light bulbs bounced back in Japan after two consecutive months of decline China by contrast still witnessed falling prices for 40W replacement products in December China was the regional market that had the largest decline in prices of 60W-equiv LED light bulbs for December, with an average monthly drop of 49% To drive up sales, vendors in China continued with their promotional activities after the Singles’ Day event in November Prices of 60W replacement products in other regional markets were relatively stable in December Yu pointed out that for 2015, the global average price of 40W-equiv LED light bulbs fell 14% annually, while the year-on-year price decline for 60W-equiv LED light bulbs was 16% China and the US were the markets where the downtrend was very noticeable Overall, LED lighting products did not encounter price decline as sharp as LED packages, and lighting vendors have managed to keep prices high for some products that hit the market early last year
